Qi Gong

We are passionate about qigong (Energy Work), pronounced “chi-kung”. It is about internal health and healing for the body, mind and spirit.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a system of self rejuvenation. It uses slow meditative movements, controlled breathing and calmness of mind.

Health qigong is a mixture of exercise, treatment, dance and meditation.

All movements have their basis in nature and are slow, measured and performed within the students’ capability level.

Qigong has been renowned in China for centuries for its health benefits and has recently been the subject of much scientific research which has supported the theories.

Findings regarding its health benefits have included:

  • Increased muscle strength and flexibility

Classes

One of the many great things about qigong is that you do not need any special equipment to practice it and you can do it anywhere! With this in mind, since the COVID pandemic began, we began running all of our Qigong sessions online through Zoom and at absolutely no cost to those who join.

They’re run every Wednesday morning from 11am until 12pm. A few months ago we’ve started regularly having an extra 1/2 an hour at the end of the class where we’ll have a guided meditation.

If you aren’t able to attend the session for any reason, you’ll get a link to a recording of that week’s lesson shortly afterwards where it will be viewable whenever you want.

If you’d like to join our Qigong classes, just sign up to Roz Gadd’s mailing list here and you’ll get an email every week containing the link to join.

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We do our best to recommend moves for and accommodate any health issues you may have. We’re yet to meet someone who can’t do QiGong, be it from a bed, or a sitting position. For those who are thinking it sounds too easy for them, fear not, QiGong is as hard or as gentle as you make it- for martial artists it can help balance, breathing and power. It’s not unknown for fit people to exit QiGong looking like they’ve just done a cardio work out, alongside their reenergised 90 year old class mates.
